If you haven’t checked your Google Business Profile lately, there’s a decent chance it’s already pulling in content from your social accounts.
Google has been rolling out a “Social Media Updates” section on Business Profiles, which does exactly what it sounds like. Once you connect your social accounts, post previews from those platforms show up automatically on your Google listing. Someone searches your business, and right there alongside your hours and reviews, they can see your latest Instagram post or Facebook update.
After you add your links and save, Google usually starts showing your social media updates on your listing within a day or two. No extra work on your end after setup.
What platforms are supported?
Google currently supports Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. You can only add one link per platform, so one LinkedIn and one Facebook, for example, but not two Facebook pages.
How to add your social links
It takes about two minutes. Go to your Google Business Profile, click Edit Profile, then head to the Contact section and scroll down to Social profiles. From there you can add each platform one by one and hit Save.
Worth noting: Google may have already added some social links to your profile automatically if your accounts meet certain criteria, so it’s worth checking what’s there before you assume nothing is connected.
Why it matters for local businesses
The obvious benefit is visibility. When someone finds you on Google, they get a better sense of who you actually are as a business, not just your address and star rating. A consistent social feed gives potential customers something to look at before they decide to call or book.
There’s a less obvious benefit too. Keeping your social profiles active and aligned with your brand across the web helps Google better understand the relationship between your business and its online presence. That consistency is a positive signal, even if it’s not a direct ranking factor.
One thing to be aware of: if your social posting is sporadic or you’ve got old content sitting there, this feature will surface that. The flip side of more visibility is that it works both ways. If your last Instagram post was from 2022, that’s now visible to anyone who finds you on Google.
A simple thing worth doing
Most Google Business Profile updates get overcomplicated or buried in listicles. This one is genuinely quick to set up and has a real payoff. If you’re already posting on social media, you may as well have that content working for you on Google too.
